Irene’s Bakery has been a family owned business in Victoria since opening in 1985 on Oak Bay Avenue. In the late 80’s the founding family decided it needed more space and purchased Rose Bud Bakery and building, which had been operating since the 1960’s, and brought both bakeries together in our current Government Street location.
The bakery was founded on the principals of traditional European bread making, and these principals are still practiced each and every day at Irene’s. Our mission is to be Victoria’s best wholesale option for restaurants, golf courses and coffee shops providing a large array of products.
Local is the backbone of Irene’s. We are disciplined in our purchasing, buying all of our supplies from BC companies, and using flour milled from Canadian farmers grain. Our staff all live on the island, and we maintain a tight customer base proudly serving Greater Victoria only. We do have people calling imploring us to ship our bread further abroad, which we are happy to do, but our roots are in Victoria and that is where we intend to keep them!
Our focus on one market, quality ingredients, exceptional customer service, and a willingness to work with our customers to create whatever products they need, has served us well. We have grown so we are able to operate with full staff complement: order desk, bakers, packers and delivery drivers 6 days a week.
We are big enough to deliver, but small enough to care!
